The 140th Canton Fair opens at Guangzhou’s Pazhou complex on October 15, 2026. If the last session is any guide, roughly 310,000 overseas buyers will attend over the three-week run — with Gulf, Russian, and CIS buyers among the largest delegations.
If you are planning the trip — or still deciding whether the trip is worth it — here is the guide I would give a friend: the dates that matter, what the booths actually are, and how to work with a Guangzhou-based sourcing agent before, during, and after the fair. Including the part that matters most, which happens nowhere near the exhibition halls.
The 2026 Phase Map — and Which Days Matter for You
- Phase 1 — October 15–19: electronics and home appliances, hardware and tools, machinery, building materials.
- Phase 2 — October 23–27: household items, gifts and premiums, kitchen and tableware, furniture, decorative building materials.
- Phase 3 — October 31 – November 4: textiles and garments, home textiles, shoes and bags, office supplies and stationery, food and health products, personal care, pet supplies.
Halls are open 9:30–18:00 daily at the Canton Fair Complex, Pazhou. For buyers in the categories we work with most — beauty and personal-care tools, garment and fashion accessories, home textiles, stationery, festive paper goods, and kitchen and household items — Phase 2 and Phase 3 are the days that matter. Phase 1 is worth a look only if electronics accessories are on your list.
The Veteran’s Truth: What the Booths Actually Are
I have worked around the Canton Fair for 23 years. Here is what I tell every buyer who asks whether the fair is “worth the trip” — not the brochure answer, the accurate one.
A large share of booths are trading companies, not factories. The booth sign says “manufacturer”; the business card often says “industry and trade.” Many exhibitors assemble goods from multiple factories and mark up accordingly. There is nothing wrong with a good trader — but you should know you are talking to one, and negotiate accordingly.
Even real factory exhibitors usually make one narrow category well. A factory excellent at one product buys its accessories, packaging, and adjacent items from other workshops. A booth quoting you ten product lines is almost certainly sourcing them from ten different makers.
The genuinely specialized small factories are often not there at all. The makers who do one thing deeply — precise tooling, consistent finishing, export-grade quality control — frequently lack the budget, the export-record history, or simply the appetite for a booth. They sell through networks, not catalogs.
So what is the fair actually good for? Three things: spotting trends for the coming season, collecting contacts at speed, and setting price anchors — seeing the spread of quotes for a product so you know the real market floor. It is a starting line, not an ordering desk.
The fair is where buyers start. The factories that matter are often the ones you’ll never find in the catalog.
That sentence is the whole reason Z-Pick exists.
Before You Fly: Registration, Visa, and a List That Gets Real Quotes
- Register your buyer badge in advance — it is free. Overseas buyers pre-register through the official Canton Fair system at cantonfair.org.cn. On-site registration exists, but pre-approval saves you hours of queueing in the October crowds.
- Request your visa invitation letter early. The official invitation for your business (M) visa is applied for through the buyer system after registration. October is peak season at China consulates — start the process in September.
- Write a sourcing list that means something. “Beauty tools” gets you a showroom pitch. “5,000 pcs stainless-steel lash tweezers, matte black finish, laser-engraved logo, retail-ready packaging” gets you a real quote. Specify quantity, materials, certifications, and packaging for every line.
Before the Fair: Let Us Build Your Map First
Send us your category list two to three weeks before you travel, and we deliver two things the booths will not: a long list of target suppliers — exhibitors and specialized non-exhibiting factories — and a market price map for your products. The moment a booth quotes you, you will know whether you are hearing a factory price or a trader markup.
Every shortlisted name goes through our Free Supplier Check — a 24-hour background check covering business licenses, export records, and the question that matters most: factory or trader. Run it on your own shortlist too, before you book a single meeting.
During the Fair: We Work Outside the Halls
Let me be straight about this October: I will not be inside the halls walking the fair with you. What I can do — and what actually moves orders — happens from my desk in Guangzhou while you walk the aisles:
- Same-day card verification. Photograph the business cards and product tags you collect, send them over WhatsApp, and we check each company the same day — factory or trader, real capacity or rented booth.
- Price cross-checking. Every quote you receive is compared against our market data, with alternative makers lined up for anything quoted high.
- Sample logistics. We arrange sample collection, inspection, and consolidation, so you are not carrying boxes onto the plane.
Not attending at all? No badge, no visa, no trip — Guangzhou’s wholesale markets and factory clusters need no entry pass. During the fair window we can run visits for your categories: the beauty towers (Meibo City and Xingfa Plaza), the garment and accessory streets (Shisanhang, Zhanxi), hotel and catering supply markets (Nantian), and the leather-goods factory cluster at Shiling. Tell us your products and we walk them for you.
One logistics note for registered buyers: the official system lets you bind up to two Chinese companions to your buyer record — ask us how it works before you register.
After the Fair: Where Orders Are Won — or Lost
The week the fair closes is the worst time of year to be one business card in a stack of hundreds. Factories are swamped: follow-up queues, sample queues, production slots filling for Q4 and the pre-Chinese-New-Year rush. Quotes go stale, samples run late, and some “manufacturers” you met quietly reveal the trading company behind them.
This is our home ground, and it is where Z-Pick does the work that decides whether your trip pays off. Based in Guangzhou — 23 years hands-on, every order personally overseen by me, Yumi — we handle quote follow-up and term negotiation, sample collection and inspection, factory audits, in-production quality control, production scheduling, and pre-shipment inspection.
The durable advantage is the one you cannot see from a booth: our network of specialized factories outside the fair catalog — small, focused makers we have worked with over two decades. When a booth supplier overbooks, raises prices, or goes quiet after the fair, that network is your backup supply.
One More Reason to Lock Suppliers Early: Shipping
This October also brings the tightest Gulf shipping market in years, with war-risk surcharges and rolled cargo on Persian Gulf routes — we have tracked the crisis week by week in our Hormuz shipping update. In a tight market, factory slots and container space go to buyers with verified, committed suppliers — not buyers still sorting through a stack of business cards. Locking your supplier base before the fair, not after, is how you protect Q4.
